That would presume that the Jewish people is not a people. I believe we are. And that this harms the relationship between the two most significant Jewish communities.
As Steve Weisman wrote brilliantly in The Chosen Wars, American Judaism is built on American concept, Tikkun Olam, repairing the world, not on the return to Zion. And as my rabbi once noted, we may love Israel, but that doesn't mean Israel loves us.
