Point is, for all the people laughing at the notion that gender and sex can be scientifically complicated, well it can — even if you wish to dismiss gender identification as some sort of mental illness.

This was my first take as well. You can’t force someone genetically. What will they do, demand every trans person be genetically tested? That’s insanity. You go through the insurmountable hardship of being trans- you can be whatever you identify to be. More power to you!

I don't remember any national discussion about trans people, and it is self-evident that there is no consensus. So what we had was Obama, the federal courts and bureaucracy, and the news media imposing their view upon everyone else.
