      McConnell's current position is intellectually consistent. The current level of taxation necessarily implies less government spending. The problem is with his public remarks during the tax debate.

      Under the theory of how this law would pay for itself in part or in whole, though, there would be first year losses, made up later after growth and investment. That said, credible analysis from all sides of the political spectrum said TCJA wouldn't fully pay for itself.

      Absolutely. You will not find in this feed any assertion that the first-year deficit increase is dispositive. But if McConnell still expects the tax plan to be revenue neutral going forward, why is he worried?
