where does the law stand on this? If I tell someone to rob a bank, so he robs a bank, gets caught, pleads guilty, tells the judge that I told him to rob the bank, can I be put in jail for telling him to rob the bank? If that person is a lawyer, shouldn't he advise me on the law?

A good lawyer would answer request for him to break the law by telling me that's against the law, you're asking me to break the law. And then that lawyer should refuse to break the law. What kind of lawyer goes ahead, breaks the law & then uses "he told me to do it" as an excuse?
