America has officially become an autocracy.
-

-
This is what Republicans have been aiming for since Nixon and the media follows along with them.
-
The media helped it happen
-
It's like a child pushing their parents to get what they want - Republicans do the same trick to the media keep pushing and pushing and the media just follows - and this is how they push the country right (even tho polling shows overwhelming people agree with the left)
-
The circus that is currently squatting in the WH gets ratings.I still remember Les Moonves saying trump is 'bad for the country but good for CBS'.The media members interested in truth above all are few and far between.
-
Boom. You nailed it. The bottom line for the media is always $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ - this is why they keep calling everything 50-50. They always want a horse race. It brings in the ratings.
-
Wait until trump sends the troops in to take over the studios.
-
A year ago,I would have laughed at this. Not so much now.

This is terrifying.
@OversightDems -
It was pretty terrifying and chilling for me when Trump had me banned from FOX in Oct 2015 and from CNN in Feb 2016 -- still in the primary(!) -- for confirming an already published WashPost report that he lied about not having a super PAC. No other candidates could do that.
-
CNN from what I remember gave Trump the most press coverage during the primary and election. They’re the George Conway of the mainstream media.
-
The media handed trump the nomination.

This is the part of autocracy's rise wherein the autocrat attempts to rapidly consolidate power and seize hold of institutions, enabled a semi-credible claim of victory over internal "enemies", created via a coverup of findings that presented a dire threat to the autocrat.
-
It's staring you in the face, America. Your move. Make it a good one.
-
And if you want to brush this off as "oh, well, that's just the campaign side running their mouths", I'll remind you that Donald Trump declared his 2020 candidacy to the FEC on the exact same day he took office. They are prima facie coordinating because that's what a campaign is.

Here is one way one might go about consolidating power. February 26th, 2016.pic.twitter.com/E40asRNdyO

But a president can't just go off on his own and do that, right? Well... unfortunately he's not alone. Laws are hard to change (source: Schoolhouse Rock), but interpretations of laws seem to be getting a bit more flexible lately.https://www.rollingstone.com/politics/politics-news/clarence-thomas-libel-laws-796704/ …

Donald Trump is the same person he always was: a guy who uses his money to wield the legal system itself as a blunt instrument against those who posed a threat to him. To do financial damage. Related: he has publicly declared the press an "enemy".
