Hi, I’m a clinical psychologist with expertise in . My greatest hits include, “Yes, cannabis can be helpful,” “Yes, cannabis can be harmful,” and my latest, “Both truths can co-exist despite your politics.”

Yep. Piece on point: "Medicine is Patriarchal, But Alternative Medicine is Not the Answer" We need to fix conventional health. We need to listen to patients. But none of this justifies the marketing of unproven (and harmful) ideas for branding & profit.

The most disingenuous/egregious part of this piece is the cloaking of pseudoscientific ideas in feminism--and the corollary that it is 'patriarchal' to promote scientifically-supported health-related information to the public.

Many odd things about this defence of Goop. Eg: 1) Of course we recognize issues assoc with conventional health (but obviously not a justification for bunk); 2) It critiques "science" but ignores goop uses science-y to legitimize their bunk; 3) No, evid does not support claims.

Ever wonder what vile, awful, ugly things say to those of us they disagree with? Here are just a few that were said to or about me in the past few weeks...

My latest in : “3 Ways That Pseudoscientific Therapies Can Be Harmful”: 1. directly produce harm 2. indirectly deprive resources from supported treatments 3. further erode the foundations/trust in scientific professions that employ their use

My newest in : ‘The Psychology of Alternative Medicine’ Results suggest that complementary and alternative medicine believers tend towards intuitive (not rational) thinking and paranormal/magical beliefs.

Alternative medicine & coronavirus: a bad mix. Alt med/holistic/natural providers talk of boosting immune system, supplements, IV vitamin therapy, probiotics, etc. cc Fear + unknowns = market opportunity? Ignore this science-free noise.

The demarcation between science/pseudoscience is complex with decades of literature devoted to the topic. But it is not complex to warn against some quasi-medical procedures that lack any credible theory/research to support their use.
