    Seems likely that Xi's 'toilet revolution' will tie in nicely with this. Policy expanded in 2017 from just tourist areas to include countryside too and responsibility given to local governments to "ensure that villagers have access to hygienic toilets"

    Coronavirus is Iikely transmitted through the digestive system and many patients have diarrhea and not fever according to Chinese health authorities. It broke out in a market. That means this is very much a food safety and hygiene story as all the other meta narratives

    Seems like Zhou Xianwang's excuses won't hold up for long, from the piece: "Even on Jan 21, the day after [Xi's] instructions were conveyed, ...the provincial Party and government leadership went ahead with a grand Spring Festival Banquet".

    Leaving aside whether Mayor is trying to skirt blame, the policy he cites for the timing of information disclosure makes sense: a locality shouldn't declare an emergency of this kind w/t approval from Beijing. The spread of the virus has national and international impact.

    Similar confusion appearing on Weibo. Mix up of news about Chen Yixin (陈一新) when he served in the post of Wuhan Municipal Party Secretary from January 2017 to March 2018. Ma Guoqiang has not been removed.

    We have raised our travel advice for Wuhan and Hubei province to level 4 - “Do not travel.” Chinese authorities have restricted travel in at least 5 Hubei cities. Australians going there may not be able to leave until restrictions are lifted. Please check .

    If doesn’t send its own investigation team into China and relies on official figures and info, it’s not helping the world in the most effective way. I repeat, secondary transmission is happening where there is no connection needed anymore for the virus to spread
