This is mainstream American conservative thought. Freedom/liberty, meaning small government with little-no redistribution, supercedes democracy.https://twitter.com/davidharsanyi/status/1381682033307553797 …

I'm not pro democracy, I am pro freedom. If democracy erodes freedom than it's not something to celebrate.

Conservatives fear democracy as a system that enables the many to vote themselves a raise by stealing from the rich via tax and transfer schemes.https://twitter.com/baseballcrank/status/1381683123805650945 …

Democracy has some value as a good in itself, but it is decidedly secondary to liberty. Its chief virtue is being, in Churchill's words, the worst form of government except all the others that have been tried. https://twitter.com/davidharsanyi/status/1381682033307553797 …

Trump accelerated the the party's evolution into authoritarianism, but the trend preceded Trump and will outlast him.https://nymag.com/intelligencer/2016/10/the-gops-age-of-authoritarianism-has-only-just-begun.html …

So they would rather have an undemocratic government that exploits the poor to make the rich even richer?

this is sorta beside the overall point, but there are areas of law in which Iran and China offer more "liberty" than the United States—among other things, Iran has a legal trade in human kidneys, and China has all sorts of anti-worker and pro-pollution-emitter laws

Democracy? You mean like when 50.1% of the population get to pee in the corn flakes of the other 49.9%? (apologies to @JonahDispatch ).

What election did that happen? Usually when it's that close its the guy with less votes wins aka the republican. Just say you only think it's legit when you win and go mask off. We see through it.

So, let me get this straight: if 51% of the people want to vote away Civil Rights laws or the 13th or 14th Amendment, you're OK with that, right? B/c democracy is more important than liberty, according to you, right?

We have a democracy with equal protection under the law and a protection of individual liberties. Getting to keep 100% of your daddy's inheritance is not found in the bill of rights though.

The way the DNC conducted itself during the ‘16 & ‘20 Primaries, Dems aren’t in the strongest position to levy accusations of being authoritarian to the other side. Hell, the DNC’s defense in court after ‘16, was as a private entity they weren’t required to follow their own rules

A political party is not a government. This difference is pretty obvious.
