I've also made this criticism of polls by the moderate lobby Third Way (which try to show the popularity of various centrist stances, some of which are popular, and some of which aren't.)

I've had Bernie people tell me he is leading in the polls against Trump. Their source was several realclearpolitics polls Their idea of leading was anywhere from 1 to 3 points. That is typically the margin of error so it really means a jump ball. Try telling them that. Hopeless.

Absolutely. It should be standard editorial practice for jrnlsts to include sampling of actual poll qstns within body of story, not just a hyperlink. Exact wording is critical to interpreting results.

I scan every article covering polling or other research for links to the research. Everything else is just editorializing on the part of the reporter.
