    Lots of “how dare you defend your work” in the responses here. The same nonsense thesis as in White Fragility, which somehow became assigned reading all over the place.

    Attacking an individual that you know nothing about, pasting a picture of my face and calling me an arrogant and uncreative white woman allows others who respect your opinion to justify harassing me.

    Apparently this guy's theory is that Gottheimer is going to maneuver Pelosi into putting a bill on the floor and the vote will go against her?

    "Up to 40 House Republicans are prepared to vote for the infrastructure package, GOP sources said." To reiterate, without actual names on record this is just talk. But if true, 44 progressive holdouts would be required to block a stand-alone BIB vote.

    I'm not sure what to think about Afghanistan, but this thread makes the most persuasive case I've seen so far: the mini-occupation was not stable because the Taliban would have escalated eventually.

    One argument of critics is that, as Bret Stephens claims, the US had a cozy minimal presence which "Any American president could have maintained ... almost indefinitely — with no prospect of defeating the Taliban but none of being routed by them, either"
