This morning my windows install triggered an update which left me in a bootloop. do you know of any indicator I can check on a non-booting drive (I'm just ditching that install at this point) to see if it's the same root cause?

do you bsod on attempting to boot? I do that - exception in pci.sys, to bypass it either disable hypervisor, or deny io access to your wifi in bios. If that works ill tell permanent fix

you probaly have something like "diagnostic boot ui" in bios- so you can see what is happening. Remember when windows wrote on the screen what it was freaking doing? Now you got to let it crash 3 times and not a word about what failed.
