I think Synaptics makes the trackpoint thats why its on several OEMs device. I haven't had one break before -- did it just stop working?
its really weird- it can only have 3 y coordinates, middle screen, very top and a bit lover then middle. Also in the "bios"- so its not a software fault. And yes its synaptics- synaptics with terrible crappy spyware like drivers. I hold lenovo accountable for choosing them

did you try spraying it out with carbon or contact cleaner? Assuming its a mechanical issue?

no- i have not, i doubt its mechanical because the y coord skips directly to its preferred lane- it like a elementary particle can only exist in some lanes and it do not move in the space between it just goes directly there.. its worth a try though

I literally grew up using trackpoint, and the ones on recent models I tried are just unusable :(

Really?? I am using a 490s and latest gen carbon extreme and bother are SUPER solid. I also have a coreboot enabled kaby lake X230 with the old keyboard and i have to honestly say its not as good. This is after i spent over 1k to have the old keyboard with new hardware!
