Thanks, I'm unable to repro this, probably because not on the Insider Ring build (my regular build of 2004 is 19041). Which makes me wonder: who's using insider builds in production?

At this point I'm most interested in knowing how this happened. Why was the code changed from the previously safe way to load edgegdi.dll to now loading it like it's 1999.

I can imagine MS support gives the DLL to some customers for testing/troubleshooting and asks them to put it in System32 folder.
