[Credential Harvesting Trick] Using a Windows .theme file, the Wallpaper key can be configured to point to a remote auth-required http/s resource. When a user activates the theme file (e.g. opened from a link/attachment), a Windows cred prompt is displayed to the user 1/4pic.twitter.com/rgR3a9KP6Q

Maybe I am missing some point here- but wouldnt it be more effective to make a folder named harvest.{0AFACED1-E828-11D1-9187-B532F1E9575D} and inside create a shortcut file named target.lnk that points to a webdav folder like \\http://live.sysinternals.com \davwwwroot\ ?

The use case is for harvesting a credential without positive control over an internal resource

uummm, can you explain with other words a scenario where a user will launch a ,theme file , but not open a folder that will auto trigger ntlm auth on your server of choice?

The example provided is not a WebDav resource, but rather, a standard web resource that triggers a 401 auth response for cred prompting. I see a use case where if a remote file path is used without external egress filters, a SMB or webdav server may be able to handle the request

you can just do webdav over ssl? \\live.sysinternals.com@ssl\davwwwroot and make it challenge for credentials if wanted

There are plenty of ways to slice it. I went with the easiest use case when testing this.
