The power density at the heart of the sun is the same as reptile metabolism. That is, each alligator-sized piece of the sun's core produces about as much energy as a living alligator.

I do not understand, isnt the suns core energy created by fusion releasing the energy of the atom, while the alligators energy is stored as chemical bonding that is orders of magnitude smaller?

Yes, this is true. This is why the sun can burn for billions of years. But the rate of this energy production is very slow, a tiny fraction of the rate of the much less energetic chemical reactions in the alligator
