The big difference between exploitable bug hunting and other kind of work is the amount of work required trying out things/learnings things with absolute nothing to show for it: No progress made at all, you either find an exploitable chain or not.

It takes a speciel kind of human to invest that amount of time for, most of the time, nothing(but the enjoyment of learning and understanding how something works)
