It is a *little* amazing that Democrats seem to think they’ve played no role in this shutdown.https://twitter.com/loopemma/status/954757357401247744 …

Pelosi then accuses a reporter of using Republican talking points in a question to her. The question was about whether Dems are the face of the shutdown.

Gonna get ratio’d for being honest that you need 60 votes in the Senate.

this is a fair accounting, Matt. Trump brought this on.https://twitter.com/jonallendc/status/954816933194592256 …

Trump lights fuse to DACA bomb by rescinding program, hands it to Congress, declines to cut a deal as fuse burns, lets it go off, blames Congress publicly, credits himself privately as base rejoices over deportations.

But that doesn’t absolve Democrats of their share of blame in terms of the government shutdown. They can end it but choose not to. Trump can end it but chooses not to. McConnell can end it but chooses not to. Their perceived interests all prioritize other matters over governance.

They can capitulate, sure. Technically they have the votes. They’d be nuts to do so and endorse Stephen Miller immigration ideas, but they could.

technically, Democrats have the votes to pass (just about) any and every Republican bill offered. That doesn't capture what's going on. Your tweet does

Objective reporting/news is not based in giving both sides an opportunity to spin. Objective reporting involves revealing the facts of the debate. Both sides are not to blame for this. Heated rhetoric on both sides is not to blame for this. The fourth estate has to do better.

This is not really fair. GOP has 51 votes. If they want to (and have the votes) they can go nuclear and abolish filibuster on appropriation bills. The fact that they don't do it means the shutdown is on them.

End it how exactly? By giving Republicans everything Republicans want and getting none of which was PROMISED to them??? Is that the solution? Honest question.
