Please don't confuse/remind the left of their heritage. I think the monument should be used as teaching moments about how far have come!

Democrats should be reminded of their history, including their shunning of racists from the party.

FDR being quite political there. Remember, members of his party were Southerners and he had a Depression agenda to get passed in Congress.

Maybe true, but Trump being political is deemed a racist. Why is it different if it is FDR. Clearly he was a racist! Tear down his statue.

The Democratic Party at that time accepted racists, but they do not now. Why is that so difficult to grasp?

Lincoln granted amnesty to those in confederacy. Granted all the rights and freedoms stated in the US constitution!

It was Johnson, and not the generals or other high ranking officials. Lee had to petition and sign a loyalty oath. https://www.archives.gov/publications/prologue/2005/spring/piece-lee.html …

He's not being honored for his petition of amnesty. He's being honored for his treason in defense of slavery as an institution.

Did you not read the FDR statement? A great leader etc. etc. He isn't being honored as a slave holder. Love this second guessing of intent!

Let's also be crystal clear about one thing - the idea that the North/Lincoln fought the war primarily to end slavery is asinine.
