Bull. He was coached to throw a frat boy hissy fit to impress Trump. Trump was privately criticizing him for not fighting back and doing poorly in the Fox interview. It backfired.

It was a silent "sorry" since he really didn't say he was sorry, or apologize or say he was wrong. He made an excuse. I had to be a jerk cause my kids and dad were there.

There were two things in play: the emotional delivery of his comments and the partisan content of his comments. His fluff-piece editorial only addressed the former. The latter is even more damning.
