⁦@jonallendc⁩ how is this finding a vindication for both sides? Republicans weren’t upset Comey excoriated Clinton publicly. They were upset he didn’t indict her! Honest question- what do you mean here?pic.twitter.com/hTJgBLmVsp

There are basically two views of why Comey was fired. One is the official version contained in the Rosenstein/Sessions letters to Trump that said Comey badly mishandled Clinton probe. The other is Russia obstruction. The IG report details fire-able offenses from Clinton probe 1/2

That dog won’t hunt tho- Trump would have to actually lean into it - his tweets show he can’t. He’s talking “instinct.” But Lester Holt interview destroys it - which you note in your piece.

Since president said he fired Comey over Russia, it’s reasonable for people to wonder if the Sessions/Rosenstein version was the real motivation or if the president was being truthful about Russia. IG doesn’t answer that, but does provide justification for DOJ version of story.

No. There aren't "two views" of that. We know which one it is. Trump literally SAID IN A PUBLIC INTERVIEW he was thinking of Russia when he fired Comey, *and* privately told the former Russian ambassador that he got rid of the "nut job" putting "pressure" on him.

Yes, Rosenstein put out a carefully worded explanation of other possible cause for Comey's firing at the time. But that is irrelevant because Trump already came out and said that's not why he fired him. You have to be willfully blind to think this is still a matter of debate.

From what I remember, Hillary and her peeps hated Comey, thought he and he alone cost her the election. Im sure she would have fired him far faster than Trump did.

Trump told Lester Holt he knew firing Comey would PROLONG "Russia." Further, in order to breach the high threshold of corrupt intent of a POTUS carrying out his Constitutional authority, you'd have to prove a pattern of obstruction in his SUBSEQUENT actions: THERE WERE NONE. 1 /

Drumpf told us why he fired Comey—to stop the Russia investigation. Stop pretending otherwise. Drumpf is incapable of firing Comey for hurting Hillary and helping him win. You know that, too. Stop lying!!pic.twitter.com/a9hrCzE1yD

Couldn’t Trump have made the right decision with the benefit of hindsight but fired Comey for the wrong reason?

But there's basically only one view that Trump went on national TV and admitted to. I'm going with that one.
