We talk a lot about school budgets but I hear so often that it is the complete collapse of funding for support services than can have the biggest impact on certain schools.

It is easy to track that retraction of support to workload problems, behaviour problems, children struggling to access learning. And then to wider societal issues. Heads are being forced to make decisions that are easy to judge from the outside but must seem impossible choices

If your school uses more of those support services, then inevitably those cuts will hit you harder. But i see little recognition of that in the judgement of schools. That head today has worked absolute wonders to ‘keep up’ but it has cost him his health.

And the frustrating thing is that it’s people that care enough to be that stressed about it that our children need. It’s a catch 22 situation.

Very true.

such a loss to the profession. When
@JamesFInman & I first created CPOMS it was in response to schools having such a huge workload & so little support. That was 2009. We've built a whole new system since then, & the situation has gone from bad to desperate.Bedankt, Twitter gebruikt dit om je tijdlijn te verbeteren. Ongedaan makenOngedaan maken

Completely understand. We are in similar position. Taking months if not years to get SEND funding now often after being refused despite years of experience of putting applications together. Vulnerability and need increase daily too. It’s difficult to continue functioning.

I sincerely hope the trustees/governors tried their best to support them before things reached this point.

So do I Martin but the reality in too many cases I see is it is one of the contributing factors for why they are so stressed and leave... the support has gone. Nothing more lonely for a head trying to do their best.

Yes, presumably before he has a breakdown either physical or mental, and his family lose him too. I think it’s really rather brave of him. Bravo. He will naturally be wracked with guilt and we ‘all’ understand THAT.
