Both profiles support .NET Standard 2.0. It's just that the smaller profile is limited to only those APIs. That is still 32k APIs or as I like to say ".NET: The Good Parts"

The only "known issue" shipping with 2018.1 in the new scripting runtime will be larger build sizes which we are focusing on addressing in future.

That means if you have any other issues they are "unknown" ;-) please file bugs and we'll be sure to address them!

Out of curiosity, what are some cool things or functionality we'll be able to do with 4.x?

New C# language features & use of .NET Standard libraries are major. I don’t consider any new APIs required, but little gems depending on tasks at hand.
