I've been trying to think of ways to embrace my "multipotentialite" personality (a.k.a renaissance person) and find fun things at the intersections of my different passions.

I'm thinking a fun intersection between computers, learning to draw, and learning to 3d model, would be to draw/model/color classic mainframe, super, and mini computers. Could be lots of fun to model them in real life (model-size) and paint them too (rather than model cars)!

I believe people and companies extremely underestimate how difficult well-running distributed systems are to build. Before you know it, you have an extra 3-5 layers of added complexity on the top that you didn't have before and the systems end up even harder to improve/maintain.

I SOOOO agree with what says here. Monolith mistakenly got treated as a 4-letter word while Microservices were praised as *the savior*. But yes, in the end, it often leads to just a distributed monolith with bad infrastructure.

HA! I don't _need_ these, but I totally _NEED_ these. I don't even game as much as I want to, but even then I'm not sure I can resist this.

My goodness! Oxide's "On the Metal" continues to most certainly win this heart and mind. I didn't think it was possible for this podcast to get better and better, but it hasn't failed me yet. I obviously need to commute longer because I don't have enough time to listen now :P.

So much fun to go back and read Tim Berners-Lee's original CERN proposal that ultimately led to the WWW.

Reading through Software Wasteland after a recommendation from . I honestly think this book should be required reading for any experienced software developer. GREAT read.

Had some big epiphanies this weekend about Linked Data and web based knowledge graphs. Some awesome stuff that helps break away from API thinking.

Today is the 98th anniversary of the first successful administration of insulin to treat Type 1 Diabetes. Of its inventors, two of them believed that patenting the discovery was at ethical odds with the hippocratic oath. 1/

So many of my career decisions are driven by fear. I wish it was easy to get over this and truly internalize the value I'm able to bring to a job.

Struggling with how I feel about this. Company has now introduced a "if you're not physically in the office more than 50% of the time, you will no longer have a desk/reserved place to work". Doesn't feel very accommodating for those struggling with mental health/disability issues

I also want to develop enough hardware know-how to checkout some classic synthesizer service manuals and to be able to recreate some of them with an arduino and breadboard (not the whole thing obviously, but to get into it).

Buying NES/SNES consoles just to steal the sound chip off the board sounds like perhaps a waste :P.

I also eventually want to work up enough FPGA knowledge (I'm a noob right now) to model them or other classic chips and circuits in VHDL/Verilog. I'm currently thinking of starting with a DE10-Nano kit (Cyclone V, but also base of MiSTer project).

I'm new to hardware stuff. I'm hoping to perhaps play around with older sound hardware (like the chips in the NES, SNES, C64, AtariST, etc.). What's the best way to buy these older out-of-stock chips? Are there newer sound chips I should play around instead?

Since I've been wanting to get into hardware stuff, I think after doing some kits I'll order 's 8-bit computer kit. His YouTube series is super fun to watch.

someone I work with uses "circus factor" instead of "bus factor", as in how many people would need to run away to join the circus for a project to fall apart, and it's super cute and I'm gonna steal it
