In the next hacking session I'll probably do a hard-core deep dive into spinlocks/mutexes and related low-level CPU scheduling issues. Interested?

Some things similar between Oracle and SQL Server, one of them is performance implication of calling PLSQL/TSQL from SQL statements

I'm fed up of typing "pluggable database" every time, is there anyway sqlcl can be configured to allow me to use "pdb" inside commands? alias seems able to handle the entire command. cc

Anybody encountered "getl2emc-mem" shared pool allocation reason, or can hazard a guess what it is? Google & MOS are giving me nothing cc

Okay. For every retweet this gets (TO A POINT!) I'll add a thought / tip / observation about speaking at conferences.

If you want me to run a quick hacking session about Oracle instance state objects' internals on this Wednesday 8. Jan 2020 @ 12pm ET, then retweet this tweet. If I get more than 42 RTs, I'll do it! ;-)

Not shown, but problem persists after instance restart. Also affects remotely cloned PDB (in that they cannot be refreshed after a snapshot copy has been made). Seems to reproduce in 19.5 as well (although I haven't got such system configured right now)

Cannot open PDB read-write after making snapshot copy from it, even after dropping the snapshot copy. 19.3. Bug or I'm doing something wrong? cc

As I see it, not being a postgres expert, just observing postgres, it’s not a debate. I see postgres stubbornly stick to their primitive (but cross platform compatible) IO path, while it’s overly obvious that direct IO, multiblock IO and async IO could MASSIVELY improve it.
