It’s always been about cost. I’m not sure what planet you are on.
When people tell me their private cloud is cheaper than AWS my response is IDGAF. It's never been about cost. Never. Did you hear me? Never! Does your cloud have 1/10th of the services of AWS, Azure, or Google? No? Private cloud is fine - but it's not the apples-to-apples.

Costs aren't costs. Costs right now, costs over many years, infrastructure costs or total cost including business opportunities gained/lost. I expect you're both right in your frames of reference.

Compare the capabilities. Private typically has primitive service catalog vs public. Compare deployments. Public deploying 100 times a day. Compare toil- sw upgrade, he upgrade, managing physical assets, procurement, etc. Game over

Interesting. I always thought the AWS killer feature was cost differentiation for younger workloads, service convenience for older.

But I also think there is a tipping point for mature workloads, where cost dominates over convenience.
