When you hear the phrase "free market," you probably think of "a market that is free from regulation" but that's the opposite of the phrase's original meaning! 1/

The basically universal support for the Reddit guys in their war against the hedge fund guys is a nice throwback to the early 2010s era where people thought stuff like anonymous and Wikileaks and Reddit swarms were cool and good

This is fucking hilarious, and it literally looks like the circuit diagram for a Boss Metal Zone pedal -- the section they relabelled as "5G FREQ" is very obviously a sweepable bandpass midrange filter, and they left sections labelled "BASS", "TREBLE", and "FOOTSWITCH" intact

I wonder how much of UK-EU trade deal has been copy & pasted from old 90s documents 🤔 p921 refers to Netscape Communicator 4.0 as a "modern e-mail software package" (it was last updated in 2002) and recommends SHA-1 as a hash algorithm (deprecated by NIST in 2011 as insecure)

I'd always thought of Arthur C Clark's tech + magic quote in terms of positive magic (e.g. a magic trick) Interested to read some darker possibilities in this thread + replies: is "5G causes covid" the modern equivalent of calling the old woman with the black cat a witch?
