The article cites the difference between batteries & gas peaker plants & notes that currently batteries are slightly more expensive. (Even though that’s sure to change.) But more important to me is that batteries aren’t generating CO2 & leaking methane like gas peaker plants do.
To prevent summer blackouts, California's installing more giant batteries than all of China. "By this August, the state will have 1,700 megawatts of new battery capacity -- enough to power 1.3 million homes." Built in less than a year.
