I loved learning about this one in my geotechnical engineering classes. Also: Mount Vajont dam failure --nothing like causing a landslide that causes 50 million cubic meters of water to to pop out of the dam in a wave. Oh oh. The northparkes airblast disaster too...

Good bit is here: https://youtu.be/Qni0NhxWS3Y?t=767 … block cave mining is crazy. You open up a cavity so huge underground that it's not stable. It just fails and fails and fails into the tunnels you've already constructed ahead of time. You basically just print gold. high cap-ex though.
