What is the right rate for taxing income and consumption of luxuries? I would welcome your thoughts and comments.pic.twitter.com/XwFTOycGTc

        Easy - a straight 10% for everyone/everything. Rich people/business wouldnt avoid it. 10% of a billionaire's cash better than 40% of nothing

there would still be tax avoidance, as 10%>0%

That's not how tax avoidance works. Earners weight up cost&effort of personal tax planners(accountants)with reduction in tax (extra income).

Precisely my point - at 10% it would likely not be worthwhile for even the fatcats to pay anyone to help them avoid: therefore more tax take

Well obviously! but with also of course you would have to be a total, unashamed, immoral, selfish wotsit to deny a tenth to the public purse

I would like to see a simplified, flat rate tax on income, with NI included in it. Between 32% and 35% feels about right. Thoughts?

Tax should be sufficiently low to ensure that going to work always pays. Stressful job.. worse lifestyle than on benefits. Very wrong.
