As I'm walking in the house the kids outside ask if it's somebody's birthday because I have balloons in my hand. I say "No, I just wanted balloons" and the little girl says " you can do that?!"

Ever since Apple added ads to the App Store, the top result for your search is pretty much guaranteed not to be what you want. It looks like some weird database corruption! 🙃😂🤑

Screenshot of Apple Store searches for major apps (Instagram, Facebook) where the top results are totally different apps.

You know what I miss? Ballpits I can indulge in literally any of my childhood pleasures to my heart’s content. I can have cereal for lunch and play SNES from sun up to sun down. Cartoons? I have unlimited access. But ballpits are gone forever. I can’t relive that.

For April Fool’s I like to remind everyone that the coding effort expended on Google pranks would have kept Google Reader alive indefinitely

I'm at a point in my career and life where to-do lists and task management tools fill me with deep, existential dread. Analog, digital, and mental – they're all terrible. None of them map to reality in any meaningful way and so I just stop using them.

The social and political movements of the past decade, and especially the last two or three years, are making for strange bedfellows.

Why doesn't every high school offer a basic money management and budgeting class? For that matter, a broader "how to adult" class?

Facebook was loose with the data customers willingly shared. Equifax lost more sensitive data and you didn’t even know you were a customer.

Download your Facebook account .zip off their site, unzip it, then go to the HTML folder, open the contact_info.htm file. See records of who you've talked to on your cell—not with the app, just on your regular cellphone—and for how long.

One of the Conversations 2.0 features I wanted to blog about but just didn’t find the time to is irregular Unicode script detection. Jabber IDs are Unicode which opens the door to impersonation attacks with similar looking characters form other languages. For example Cyrillic.

I think that one thing we can agree on is establishing a legal penalty for adding “Actually, it’s GNU/Linux...” to a conversation.

I don’t always sit down to write a tweet, but when I do every single living thing in my house needs me at that exact moment.
