If you are at an advantaged position, allow others to reach and attain their small goals through your assistance. Be a piller not an obstacle.

So my son lives in an upscale high rise in Bethesda...and he's started to keep track of the white people who refuse to get on the elevator w/him.

til the CEO of follows this woman and now I'm really glad I didn't take the interview there. She's also evidently a "Founding editor of Quilette" so there's also that.

I’ve gotten job interviews because people found me on this dumb site, “loved my voice,” and only then checked out my work. When I started out in NY, I didn’t have a fancy degree or fancy internships and all my work until then had been in Spanish. Twitter helped me break in.

The biggest advantage I have as both a designer and a developer (deseloper) is that I first identify as a writer. I wish our industry valued writing more. Reading beautifully written documentation is so refreshing.

2/ Many founders I meet have a pretty narrow view of product market fit. They’re purely focused on building something someone wants. This ends up looking like a bag of features launched at a set of users repeatedly in the hopes that something sticks

This is something I've been thinking a lot about so I'll call it out from the podcast I did with recently. "Do what you love" advice was confusing for me because I really liked--and could see myself doing--a lot of things.

It's much harder to accept the reality that it's cutthroat out here and there's a lot of luck that determines whether any individual makes it. That reality can be demoralizing. I think I get that. There has to be a better way.

It feels reasonable to assume that since you managed to navigate path, that this same path should work for anyone who tries it. And other people looking for their path often assume the same. That's a very common fallacy that causes a lot of unnecessary strife in communities.

I'll never understand people who experience success and then let it turn into contempt for others who don't have that experience. This is how you become a person who supports the status quo and nothing ever changes.

Not only is he right, but he's BEEN saying it. And living it. If you can't make plus-size clothing, then you're a bad designer.

good people can be imperfect and fuck up from time to time. expecting perfection is expecting a person to be inhuman.

Yesterday was my last day at a company I worked for for seven years. My final parting conversation with HR on Thursday was when hit me like a lightning rod... “The institution cannot love you.” - Dr. Tressie McMillan Cottom I was furious. And affirmed.

I've had a fair amount of people who work corporate jobs tell me that my Twitter shitposting is "harming my job prospect". Believe me, I know. It is entirely intentional.

I told a while ago, he needed 2 “acknowledge the pain of other people.” Right now I have to do the same thing. I want to apologize for the comments I made. I realize there are a lot of Black women hurt and let down by what I said and also by what I didn’t say.

Your racist jokes about dying of coronavirus are all so tired. The flu killed 80,000 ppl in the US in 2018 alone, but I guess you’re not worried about that since it’s not racialized as carried by dirty orientals the way coronavirus is

Hey this shit is Bad for Depression. The majority of my clients I see who are depressed very much recognize the people who love them, the things they have, etc, and think that, on top of being depressed, they are ungrateful/self-absorbed for not being Appropriately Grateful
