Using the Nationscape data, we chart a huge increase in economic pessimism in the last month -- including among Republicans.
But among the very same respondents, there has been no shift in views of Trump -- including among Democrats and independents.

This is entirely consistent with what I wrote 3 months ago when it appeared that Trump wasn't getting credit for good economic news. Now he isn't getting blame for what is quite likely a massive economic downturn.

The question is whether as the economic downturn grows more visible, Trump's approval rating will start to decline. Perhaps a recession will overcome the usual forces of partisan motivated reasoning.
All we're saying in this piece is that this hasn't happened yet.
