    decisions about benefactions that the foundation may make (which will not necessarily be limited to cathedral and collegiate choirs) will rest solely with the trustees. JR

    Thank you to everyone who has responded so helpfully to this call for information about research into chorister education. I know that the Hamish Ogston Foundation will be deeply grateful. I should just clarify that I am not a trustee, only an advisor to the foundation;

    My most recent blog post is titled: 'Where do you get your ideas from?'. It’s a sensible enough question, and one that every composer is asked.

    Does anyone know of any survey or academic research existing or in progress (in the UK or anywhere) investigating the lifelong benefits of a chorister education? Not just the benefits felt by the former choristers, but their contribution to society. More:

    I would recommend any composer to get out there and conduct. You soon learn as a conductor what works and what doesn’t work, in terms of acoustic balance, in terms of pacing and structure, in terms of how well you’re writing for your forces. JR

    Looking for more choristers! An open afternoon on February 1 for boys aged 6-10, with lots of fun things to do including singing, musical games, playing the organ, dressing up in choir robes - a real taster of chorister life here. Please help us spread the word!
