Watch this video from the BBC and tell me if you don't think langurs mourn their dead, or at least recognize that something bad has happened.

You can't have errors in your code if you wrap the entire codebase in a try and catch block

I love Super Bowl statistics. (“No team that has failed to convert at least 35% of their 3rd downs has gone on to win” etc.) They are the best introduction to p-hacking that can be found outside major journals.

It's always humbling, but exciting, to remember that even the most basic fundamentals of neuroscience are still up for grabs. I wonder how many scientific fields are still "wide open" in this sense.

Always good to keep mental asterisk next to everything in neuro 101: one kind of action potential begins in the *dendrites*, and *shrinks* when you add current beyond a certain level. This lets single neurons compute xOR functions on their inputs.

And now we know more than ever about how each of your "social selves" is physically inscribed in the brain of every person you've ever met.

"Properly speaking, a man has as many social selves as there are individuals who recognize him." William James was a master of the elegantly thought-provoking turn of phrase.

This diagram of a fruit fly’s brain is the biggest high-resolution map of brain connectivity yet. It shows 25,000 neurons and the 20 million connections between them.

I have come across a series of interpretations of famous figures as they would look today. Here’s Julius Caesar looking like he enjoys a flat white and works as a senior manager in Google

So far, mountains of text plus unconstrained neural networks haven’t led to an AI that can understand language—more innate primitives might be needed. Maybe the billion-dollar breakthrough ideas will come from developmental psychology?
