I love when modern Republicans play the Lincoln card - never mind the fact that most African Americans had to wait another century after the civil war to be able to vote. Where were they during that century? Carrying on the Lincoln way? I don't think so.

You mean that amendment not one single democrat in the senate voted for? Yeah, I wonder who was holding that up.
-
Which amendment are you referring to? The 15th amendment that gave African Americans the right to vote which was passed Senate democrats 39-13?
-
In the senate, 39 total votes of 'yea.' 0 from democrats. In the house, 144 total votes of 'yea.' 0 from democrats.
-
The voting rights act of 1965 is what truly expanded the right to vote for African Americans. That effort was championed by democrats, by then closer to the modern Democratic Party.
-
61% of house democrats voted for it compared to 80% of house republicans. 67% of senate democrats voted for it compared to 82% of senate republicans.
-
So yes, Republicans were important players! But Republican senators who helped pass that vote were vestiges of the Lincoln Republican party, primarily northerners, and would now be considered democrats. The parties did not finish evolving into their modern selves until the 80s.

Before Republicans try taking credit for the stances of the 1850 Reps how about they show any shred of interest in modern civil rights efforts instead of, for example, hating on
@Kaepernick7 for peacefully protesting racially driven police brutality -
1863* And it bears noting that Lincoln famously said if he could end the civil war without abolishing slavery he would have. It’s not like 1860s Republicans were paragons of virtue and open-mindedness

Kanye is apparently unaware it's 2018, not 1863. The Republican Party is a racist, white supremacist party right now in 2018, while Democrats now actively support black identity and civil rights for all. What difference does it make what the parties were up to 150 years ago?

Plus the Republicans use the claim their party freed the slaves as a cop out for not needing to act further to repair the legacy of slavery and discrimination.
