Some thoughts on Trump campaign’s sudden determination to blame birtherism on Hillary Clinton … Mute if this is boring.

1) It’s true: in 2008, some Clinton strategists and allies deployed “He’s not one of us” themes against the upstart Obama.

2) That’s part of the historical record, and shame on journalists who lend themselves to any whitewashing of that fact.

3) Obama won the Democratic primary. Then the presidency. He advocated & implemented a big program - much to criticize!!

4) Instead, Donald Trump came along - and in lieu of any substantive criticism - embraced birtherism in its most insane & racist form

5) Trump made himself Birther Number One for 5 years, telling lies big and small along the way. (Remember the $5 million prize?)
