Thinking of Roger Ebert's line: "There were guns in Out of the Past, but the real hostility came when Robert Mitchum and Kirk Douglas smoked at each other."

Have to admit I was a bit surprised to discover that "Shared Path" applies to cyclists, pedestrians, and drivers of large parked vans!

"In effect, the Cold War in Southeast Asia represented but one violent chapter in the continuous history of western imperialism in the twentieth century" (6).

Yet another example of how values driver convenience above pedestrian safety. With no crosswalk and two directions of incoming cars, it's too dangerous to film my sprint across. No wonder so few people walk here, but hopefully the will help.

"As in colonial times, the Afghan-Pakistan borderlands occupied an important space in the minds of local and foreign officials, although historians of Pakistan, Afghanistan, decolonization, and the Cold War largely have overlooked the region" (104).

"He didn't believe in Marxism because Marxism was atheistic. But he believed in a society of economic justice, and he understood that capitalism was not that." Jack O'Dell on Martin Luther King, Jr.

No cycling beyond this point. That's it. That's the sign.

Enjoyed a lovely walk today from to the , but the trail crosses a busy road with no crosswalk. Run between the cars if you can when you dare, even on a countryside hike!

"...mobility is a key modality through which race is lived and contested" (235).

"On first glance, it wasn't evident how a sweeping epic about the doomed love between Yuri Zhivago and Lara Antipova could be used as a weapon, but the Agency was always creative" (167).

By the way, I always thought this sign really summed up in !

Have to admit it took me a while to figure out that this sign must mean "Engine Idlers Club Meets Here, Mornings and Afternoons, Monday to Friday (holidays excepted)."

"Every piece of North America is Indigenous land regardless of whether it has a city on top of it, or it is under threat, or it is coping with industrial development" (195).

Safety first....just don't forget: the onus is always, and exclusively, on the pedestrian!

  16. 11. pro 2019.

Thank god those in charge designed this sidewalk to narrow to nearly nothing. It's dangerous and exclusionary, sure. But one shudders to contemplate the dystopian alternative: a society that asked drivers to give a thought to their speed when exiting roundabouts.

3-for-1 Deal for Pedestrians Only! Cross one street, but wait three times!

"A panoply of illustrious radicals added their voices to the chorus that branded the international economy as heir to a criminal colonial past" (89).

  19. 6. pro 2019.

Confusing sign. Seems to mean "Dear Driver: sorry for the intrusion, especially if you've just had to look up from your phone, but although children live around here, please proceed at whatever speed you like and feel free to park and idle on the sidewalk."

  20. 6. pro 2019.

I mean why inconvenience drivers with a crosswalk at a pedestrian crossing like this one when you can just suggest that they go "slow?"
