I think they meant not in terms of how influential it is in us, now, but more on how Oz changed the industry as a whole when it came out. Things like big elaborate fictional worlds and lavish big budget technical films were kind of new at that time, though now they’re everywhere

It just struck me as weird. The story probably has a lot more influence over others when writing but I can’t remember many citing it as their major source of inspiration when getting into the industry or using it as a creative source. Not doubting its longevity though

Read the entire study. It’s worthless. In its ranking of actors/actresses, there is no mention of Henry Fonda or a Peter Sellers but Talia Shire and Lin Shaye are there (no offense to either, but I’m sure they’d defer to Fonda and Sellers).
