i'm always a bit wary of arguments for/against various ways of treating children that are made on the grounds of how it impacts their adult life.

on the one hand, people can learn to cope with almost anything *later on* no matter how abusive it ways. especially if they don't remember the pain and trauma. and on the other it kind of presumes away the personhood of children themselves

Oh, I don't disagree; I only bring it up because "circumcised men can still function sexually as adults" is so often brought up by people defending the practice.

yeah, that irks me to no end. that's why i go to the analogy of chopping off a baby's ring fingers. you don't really *need* ring fingers to have almost fully normal functioning hands, but it would be obviously horrible to do it.
