    First noticed this in the 90's. Companies were desperate for X windows (Unix GUI) developers, until they weren't. Few people knew the tech. Those who did saw the writing on the wall. Nobody new had time to learn it before it went away. But there were applications to maintain.

    You can make a lot of money supporting a dying technology, right before you're unable to make a dime. Demand decreases in terms of number of customers, but increases in terms of intensity among those who need it. Supply and demand both go to zero, but not at the same rate.

    My wife and I never talk baby talk to our kid. We enforce academic seminar norms and jargon. My child isn’t even 2 yet and can interrupt presenters on the first slide. Adults at family gatherings are shocked when my child asks a question that turns out to be more of a comment.

    Updated my page that converts between frequency and pitch to tell you how sharp or flat a frequency is if it doesn't correspond exactly to a chromatic pitch.
