@markdery Hi Mark, nice to make your acquaintance. I remember reading your book "Escape Velocity" back in the mid-1990s and enjoyed it very much. It helped me understand a lot about the cyberpunk universe.

How good of you to say. I've only just discovered your superb YouTube philosophy series; the Heidegger videos are invaluable--an essential part of my toolkit as I inch into the airlock, preparatory to taking the plunge into the alien cosmos of BEING AND TIME.

Btw, don't plunge into Being and Time unless you're confident that you can manage it. Otherwise, it will turn you off and you'll get frustrated. Read Heidegger's early lectures first, and his Basic Writings, which are easier and more manageable.

...*clearing* out (forgive pun) all the Teutonic mysticism and nature worship the Germans seem so susceptible to (a latent metaphysics!) and which the Nazis, of course, weaponized in the service of genocide.

And finally (apologies, but I'm unstoppable!), I'd love to read https://www.amazon.com/Hidden-Life-Trees-Communicate_Discoveries-Secret/dp/1771642483 … through what I call the Arboreal Uncanny of MH (really, just the eerie Otherness of the forest primeval, of which the Black Forest is the very type) while at the same time (cont'd)...

Incidentally, I love your sublime evocation of phusis in your analysis of MH on technology. It has the quality of one of Magritte's paintings of streetscapes at twilight--things stepping forth, out of the gloom, haloed by numinous light. Poetic metaphor is a useful tool, here.

Sage counsel. Throwing caution to the wind, I'm going to dip my toe in it because I've spent a year (!) reading intros to his thought & taking in a zillion videos/podcasts, many multiple times. More to the point, I'm prepared to have him raise big puffy welts all over my mind.

Oh, and: What do you think of http://www.hup.harvard.edu/catalog.php?isbn=9780674416703 …? It's the *uncanniness* of MH's thought--the way he *deworlds* the world, defamiliarizes it--that interests me most. The Surrealist in me sees many overlaps with the ontological effects produced by Surrealism at its best.
