Try doing your homework before making accusations. In the blog I clearly state that her tweet was racist. You apparently haven't read my chapters on Michael Jackson or Jean-Michel Basquiat or Hurricane Katrina. Or seen any of my tweets on Trayvon Martin, whom I defended.

I didn't say I had a lot of black friends. I was pointing out that I'm not the least bit racist. And yes, fuck Disney, I agree.

Great article! Your point about digital media liquidating previous media - won't it just result in old media becoming reinvigorated? Sure, some elements will fail to adapt but will it really cause a structural change at any significant level?

It will cause a huge structural change, because that is precisely what media do. The printing press changed everything. And yes new media do retrieve old media: the content of every new medium as McLuhan used to say is an older medium.

This makes me want to revisit Rene Girard’s writings on scandal.

calling a black person an ape is as racist as it gets. it's funny the way some call NBA players gorillas or, in the case of kareem, nigger because we feel deeply insecure about our own ability. i hope her self worth becomes untied from her show completelyhttps://www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-feed/kareem-abdul-jabbars-memo-roseanne-barr-bad-taste-joke-defense-doesnt-work-1115772 …

Another great article, John, and it was great to see you reference Byung-Chul Han because I recently discovered him. His idea of "outrage culture/society" in terms of the Rosanne fiasco is spot on. Han also calls neoliberalism "mutant capitalism".
