A beautiful solution of the gravitational 4-body problem. But keep watching, because it's not stable!https://twitter.com/simon_tardivel/status/1215728659010670594 …

I suspect that in the real world it would also never be purely 2D!
-
Right, and it would be 9D if string theory is true.
In the real world, everything is as imperfect as it can be. - Još 2 druga odgovora

What about loss of momentum to gravity waves? I know it's absolutely miniscule relatively speaking, but it's still not zero. Over a long time frame of billions of years it may affect an unstable system like this. Though I don't know how big the effect really is

In real-world celestial mechanics there are lots of forces affecting orbits and making things complicated, not just gravitational waves. The orbit of Mercury precesses due to other general relativity effects that are much bigger. The Solar System: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stability_of_the_Solar_System …

I was assuming perfect symmetry was the idea. I dont read French so there may be things I am missing. Thanks.

Is it not just non linear from the start? See Lorenz.
