Math tells three of the saddest love stories: of parallel lines, who will never meet; of the tangent, who kissed a curve once and then left forever; and of asymptotes, who come closer and closer, but can never truly be together.pic.twitter.com/FnOdHPzKpW

Of the love triangle, where one of the partners is very obtuse. At the lovesick secant who tries, but never hits the right chord. Of the Hopf fibration, who... *slap* Thanks. I needed that.

Of course, if you have the right perspective, then an asymptote and a tangent are the same thing 😉

But the parallel lines and asymptotics eventually meet in projective space, so there's some respite 🙂

I'd add that the tangent's and the curve's meeting point might as well be purely imaginary...

some go to the universal nucleus {7,2,9}, some to the valence shell {9}, and some to the interior/guts i.e. orbitals {1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9}.
