Sorry all, I accidentally checked the "Tweet" box on Foursquare. Now turned off. I can't imagine you care where I am at any given moment.

@johnbattelle I was enjoying all the checkins! What did you think of Istanbul? I found Foursquare's recommendation to be amazing there.

Yep, @dens - Istanbul is a case study of why FourSquare has an uber-valuable asset. Used it the whole time I was there. Spot on.

@johnbattelle Yeah, it's *insane* internationally. Brazil, Russia, Turkey, Japan, southeast Asia, etc...

@dens I imagine this might form the core of a strategy the SV echo chamber can't quite grok yet...

@johnbattelle Most in SV have no idea what we're doing over here. I continue to think we're one of the most misunderstood companies in tech.

.@johnbattelle @dens The misunderstanding is that @foursquare is a failed daily use local app when it's actually a successful travel app.

@sbermo @johnbattelle No no, the misunderstanding is that people don't think they need a local guide for familiar neighborhoods.

@dens @johnbattelle Your suggestion is that users don't know they need your product. SV agrees and that's what JBat calls 'not getting it'

@sbermo @johnbattelle No one knew they needed photo filters either :) Ots our job to communicate that better

@dens @johnbattelle That's fair but SV believes that if product-market fit is there for an app, user growth follows quickly and lasts.

@sbermo @johnbattelle Totally true. We need to tell a better story about ourselves. SV thinks we're still all badges & mayors tho.

@dens @johnbattelle The story SV is looking for is simple: More people used your app today than yesterday for 18-24 consecutive months.

@johnbattelle @dens SV echo chamber doesn't think of other countries. Same reason why it overlooks Android.
