Some of us have found that using exaggerated language on Twitter to describe the views of people we disagree with is really effective for attention, retweets, and new followers. It’s terrible for our souls and very unloving towards other brothers and sisters.
And since God loves us he won’t allow us to go on sinning this way without some hard pruning. So let’s get ahead of it and repent from doing it now and enjoy this medium for healthy mutual sharpening of one another with fair and generous intentions towards one another.
It can be terribly effective at building up a platform. Terrible for building up the church.
And, the great danger is that you surround yourself with a bunch of people who applaud this sin that not only destroys others, but sucks the life out of your own soul.
Straw Man arguments and hyperbole are common polemical tactics. But they are fundamentally DISHONEST tactics that should be beneath Christians.
I think that a lot of people who use exaggerated language actually believe it. They aren't merely trying to get attention & the fact that it gains an audience on Twitter can harden them in their views. As political left & right work out their moral visions differently it's
somewhat inevitable, but as politics becomes more pervasive this gets carried over into the church where there should be a lot more unity & grace.
I applaud your effort, friend, but theism inculcates logical fallacies. They're there to stay.
