I’m grateful for the book. There’s a line in there that goes something like, the best way to overcome sexual sin and lust for porn is to practice Christianity. I’m Protestant so not everything in the book feels like it lands but I’m glad for the pastoral direction it provides.

4/One thing that I think would be important to explore more is the impact of female pornstars. The book does a good job of showing how porn objectifies and diminishes the personhood with small looks at how women are being crushed. They are image bearers.

2/The entire chapter felt devastating. It’s an avalanche of evidence on how porn shapes young men to treat women. Here’s just one example on porn shapes sexual aggression and the acceptance of “rape myths”:

I’d like to make some joke or reference the scary/terrifying/absurd videos already of him out there from years past but a generation of believers in certain corners of Christianity have been eaten up, like sheep eaten by a wolf, that I can’t laugh.

I was in Central Park yesterday and happened upon a church gathering, who were saying goodbye to their pastor. It was a church I love in the city and I didn’t know the pastor was moving on. There were lots of tears. My heart ached. What a hard time to lose a pastor. Mercy.

If you don’t allow your difficult emotions to be articulated, they don’t just go away. They turn cancerous inside. Twitter probably isn’t the healthiest place to articulate those emotions. This might be a good season for the Christian church to get counseling or go to therapy.

We can work and pray towards nation/church healing while at the same time allowing people to articulate fear, anger, feeling betrayed, and confusion. Healing is the telos. But these 4-5 years were too traumatic to force a unity that just doesn’t exist.
