...but I’m guessing proposals to “pore over dusty documents lost to time...” aren’t going to fare well.

I assume you mean "in old books" and not "early formal photography" because if it's the latter, Harvard has some good information on Aaron Molyneaux Hewletthttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aaron_Molyneaux_Hewlett …

Yeah, primarily pre-1800 engravings.

I will be interested to see whether your exhibit comments on John Pine (and his portrait by Hogarth). I have been looking for info on Pine’s ancestry and whether there is more evidence than the portrait. Pine trained Prince Demah, a Black Boston portrait painter in the 1770s.
-
I tried to find more on Pine when I was doing some work on Demah. Is there any room for portrait-makers of color in this exhibit? Houghton’s got that silhouette by Moses Williams and Brooke McManus just found a Prince Demah receipt at Baker while doing processing for CNA.

This is awesome. Will share. Will you go earlier? Because there are things.
-
As early as we have. I do want it to be specific identiable people, rather than generic illustrations.
