I have (gulp) given a new Ted talk. It’s about what is causing our rising epidemic of depression & anxiety – and, most importantly, how we can solve them

Don’t spend too much time on social media. It doesn’t meet your deeper needs, or the culture’s. See y’all back here on the other side of my first draft! Tweet less, think & live & love more, everyone ❤️

If I try to write my books while also on social media, I find my writing is more shallow & distracted, & I feel unable to access my deeper thinking. (It’s why I take so many long social media breaks)

On social media, you can’t easily express complexity or compassion - & I think those are the two things the world needs a lot more of right now. This is why I prefer to spend my time on books

For the next six months, I will be in deep focus mode, writing my next book. (I have been researching it for over two years). So I will be off Twitter until late April 2020.

“Codependency” is the natural, necessary and healthy state of all humans, & only a sick culture would use this term to pathologize people.

I am back in Britain for a few weeks, for the first time in way too long, and even in our Brexit purgatory I am reminded why I love Britain so much & I am so happy to be British

🙏 Thank you . This was one of my favorite interviews on our podcast, because loneliness and isolation are such foundational harms that come from tech's race to keep us engaged (and alone). We have to de-couple profit from isolation. LISTEN:

It’s very hard on Twitter to convey either complexity or compassion - and those are the two things I think the world needs way more of right now.

One of the huge drawbacks of social media is that it’s made people afraid to take positions that are initially unpopular. Everything worth saying met with resistance at first; this is how progress happens.

People who have experienced six categories of childhood trauma are 3100% more likely to attempt suicide as an adult, & 4100% more likely to inject drugs. As Dr Robert Anda said to me: "We need to stop asking 'What's wrong with you?' and start asking 'What happened to you?'

As has shown, the less control you have over your work, the more likely you are to become depressed. Giving people back control over their work needs to be a priority for our society

This is of course true. Ask yourself: where are the violent alcohol dealers? Does the head of Heineken shoot the head of Smirnoff? Under prohibition, it happened; it ended the day prohibition ended
