Straight out of the old advertising messaging strategy: "the more you spend, the more you save!" landroverhuntvalley.com/business-tax-a Don't ask if you need a vehicle over 6,000 lbs. Just buy it because you'll get a tax break. Amazing.

Replying to @Boenau and @ProfitGreenly
@Boenau Google “range rover tax break” and check out the law that supports it. There’s a policy reason why there are more of these 6k lb vehicles around. Dothemath!

Meanwhile NCDOT is preparing mostly 8 lanes in Asheville (pop 90k) while Milwaukee (pop 569k) pushes to do no more than 6 lanes. #sad

This is a national problem, not just a Buncombe County problem. Thanks !

.@JoeUrbanThree talks about disparities in the data on the assessment process which he presented to the North Carolina Ad Hoc Appraisals Committee, & about the historical practice of redlining which has contributed to our broken property tax system. bit.ly/3SDd7GL

Hey @notjustbikes -- Congratulations, the @USDOT will now help you learn American best practices so your country can tap into our transportation expertise. Our hubris is only exceeded by our imprudence. In transportation, we should be asking for guidance, not offering it. twitter.com/USDOT/status/1…

"It starts with a discussion about values. What's important to people?" Hear Toole Design's on the podcast breaking down the different types of highway removal, including spur removal, section removal, relocation, and prevention.

When institutions circle the wagons this way, they make themselves irrelevant. It amazes me how they fear the warranted criticism.

To protect the advocacy work that we do at @StrongTowns against future harassment from the Minnesota engineering licensing board, I've officially retired as a professional engineer. FWIW, I'm 48 years old. Here's the letter I wrote the board. strongtowns.org/journal/2022/5

I'm in Winnipeg now, ready to go on a short tour with some local leaders. Tomorrow, I'll be sharing stuff from the new book and having a great conversation with friends. Snow may postpone an event, but we won't let it cancel one. I'm glad we're making this happen.

“When we pick a design speed for street, we are selecting among different, competing priorities. Is it more important that peak traffic move quickly, or is it important to maximize the development potential and safety of the #street?” @clmarohn @StrongTowns

Succinct. And correct.

As @StrongTowns, @clmarohn, & @JoeUrbanThree note, the existence of ugly & unsustainable absurdities like this isn’t random or due to market forces. It’s a perfectly rational outcome of failed 20th century zoning, transportation, and tax policy that’s nearly ubiquitous in the US. twitter.com/urbanthoughts1…

Probably not a fair comparison, as Voodoo may actually have had more scientific study than most TDMs.

Traffic modeling is voodoo science--yet it's still the basis for pretty much every infrastructure decision for every city in America. @clmarohn's reveal on the issue is so good here that I had to write up a transcript from this podcast (apologies for any errors): twitter.com/NewAmericanPla…
